| They can grow to form larger areas. One of the worse aspects of eczema is itching and consequently, the uncontrollable urge to scratch. Excessive scratching often leads to thickening of the skin, breaks in the skin, scabbing, flaking, crusts extension of the patches or lesions and, consequently, infection (herpes simplex virus). | ||||||||||||||

Pruritis is the medical term
for itching. Itching appears, or is associated, with most scaly skin
problems such as eczema, psoriasis and even dry aging skin. Itching can
indicate a systemic condition such as liver or kidney dysfunction. But
also certain codeine related drugs and aspirin can cause itching. In
addition, patients under severe stress experience itching. For the
eczemic patient, the itch feels like a "serious pain". It is perhaps the
most painful part of having a scaly skin disease. Histamine is the most
important agent responsible for itch. Histamine is produced by the
membranes of mast cells when activated by tissue damages and infection.
Stabilization of these membranes will decrease histamine production
during activation of the mast cells and reduce itch. Use Natural Bio-Force® |

Eczema and/or Atopic
dermatitis are synonyms for chronic skin irritation. This skin
irritation is not an allergic reaction, but it is skin hypersensitivity
due to hereditary influences. Eczema and/or Atopic dermatitis is a
chronic disease characterized by flare-ups and remissions. There is no cure for the condition, however, it has been known to clear up spontaneously. Bouts with eczema are often triggered by sweat retention, excessive moisture or dryness of the skin, stress, fatigue, and by consuming certain types of food or foods to which one is allergic. Patients with eczema often have hay fever or allergic asthma. Eczema is not contagious or an infectious condition. As with psoriasis, about 2-3% of the world population suffers from eczema. Eczema often starts in
infancy, where it is typically found on the face or groin. In young
children, it is often seen on the inside of the elbow or back of the
knee. in adults, it may affect the hands, feet, ankle, or groin.
Patients with a tendency to eczema may also get hand eczema. This is
particularly the case if they are in an occupation requiring frequent
hand washing, such as dental hygienists, healthcare workers, cooks,
bakers etc.
